NILOS INDIA is pleased to announce completion of laying & splicing of an overland conveyor with a length of 17 km, one of the longest single flight belt conveyors in the world.

This long belt conveyor (LBC) carries limestone and shale mined from Nongtarai limestone reserves of Meghalaya, India and transports the material to a 1.2 million ton per year cement plant at Noarai Chhatak, Bangladesh set up by Lafarge Surma Cement Ltd.

NILOS INDIA carried out belt laying & splicing on the entire length of 34 km against a contract awarded by M/s. Larsen & Toubro Ltd., ECC Division, an engineering & construction company of India.

The work was carried out under extreme and tough weather conditions of 195 km/h wind velocity, high temperature variations and changing ground contour, extremely hilly terrain in the India portion barely 40 km from Cherapunji, the place of highest rainfall in the world. Add to this was the challange of logistics in transporting men and machinery as the LBC crossed numerous rivers, waterways and roads on its journey from India to Bangladesh.
